More about the Centanni-Cottle Memorial 5K & Rick Centanni Memorial Fund (RCMF)

article_beloved sonUnited States Marine, LCpl Rick Centanni was born and raised in Yorba Linda, California and was a student-athlete at Esperanza High School where he played football.  Just weeks after graduation, Rick enlisted in the Marines and was ultimately assigned to the 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion.

Tragically, while on the forward edge of our nation’s defense Rick along with fellow Yorba Linda resident, 27-year Marine Corps Veteran Sergeant Major Robert J. Cottle were killed in action on March 24, 2010 in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province.

The Rick Centanni Memorial Fund was established to provide scholarships to Esperanza High School student-athletes who are going into the military and plan on secondary education to assist them with books, tuition, etc.  The annual Centanni-Cottle Memorial 5K Run/Walk supports the RCMF and keeps Rick and Robert’s name alive as hometown heroes.
