Julie Max CSU Fullerton Retirement Celebration

On February 11th, 2017 nearly 200 people were in attendance to celebrate the retirement of legendary athletic trainer Julie Max and her 37 years of service to CSU Fullerton.  Julie Max’s trailblazing accomplishments prove that Titans do indeed reach higher. Defying gender barriers, Julie is one of only a few female head athletic trainers at the Division I level. She served two presidential terms at the National Athletic Trainers’ Association — the first female to take the helm — before entering NATA’s Hall of Fame in 2007. Julie’s unwavering dedication to student success, however, is the hallmark of a remarkable career spanning nearly four decades.
Former and current athletic training students, graduate assistants, faculty, staff, student athletes and athletic administration were represented. Among those that spoke of Julie’s contributions were CSUF ATP Director Dr. Robert Kersey, former NATA Executive Director Eve Becker-Doyle, and long-time assistant AT Chris Mumaw (now retired).  Other speakers also illustrated her dedicated service to the profession, attention to student-athletes, and commitment to nurturing and developing generations of athletic trainers.  Julie also took the podium, sharing her thoughts on faith, character and integrity, which guests easily recognize as values she demonstrated both personally and professionally. Julie was presented with a Titan jersey, sporting “J. MAX” and the number 37, as well as a gift from the current AT students. In turn, CSUF team physician Dr. Carlos Prieto donated commemorative Titan Athletic Training t-shirts, with Julie’s signature, to all who attended.  It was a celebration marked by generosity, warmth, loyalty and friendship worthy of a legend. Registration costs benefited the Julie Max Scholarship Fund.
