UNLV Celebrates NATM

article_UNLVTo celebrate National Athletic Training Month, the Rebel Athletic Training Society came up with a unique way to not only promote our profession in March, but also raise funds for our organization. We created wristbands with the theme “We Prepare, You Perform” to demonstrate how we’re raising awareness about athletic training. These cool wristbands were a symbol to our student athletes that our job as athletic trainers is for their ultimate performance. Behind every athlete, there is athletic trainer who has gone above and beyond to prepare for his or her endeavors. The student athletes at UNLV and athletes at local high schools within the Clark County School District were sold these wristbands. Not only did the athletes love wearing the wristbands, they also promoted the athletic training profession by posting pictures on their social media accounts (using the hashtag #NATM2015) while wearing the wristbands! While we were able to raise funds, we also spread awareness of the profession.

Working closely with Truth Christian Ministries International (TCMI), athletic trainers and athletic training students volunteered with their weekly Food Pantry. The TCMI Food Pantry helps feed hundreds of families in need within the valley. Currently, they provide food for over 365 children, 650 adults, and 90 seniors each month. During our time there, we were able to help distribute food to many individuals and families in need. While helping the charity, we were also able to explain our profession in more detail to those that had questions about athletic training. TCMI appreciated our presence there as well as those that we touched. Both athletic trainers and athletic training students learned the importance of volunteering and how our impact made difference in those that we helped and within our community.
