FWATA Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium Wrap-Up

2018 Annual Meeting & Clinical Symposium
April 26-29, 2018
Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino

17 CEUs total (11 Category A CEUs and 6 EBP CEUs) were offered for the 2018 Annual Meeting & Clinical Symposium.

We would like to thank our On-Site Volunteers: Jamie Adams, Leroy Heu, and Terry Marcos for their hard work through-out the entire meeting. We would also like to send a huge thank you to the 50+ other volunteers who helped stuff packets, check in attendees, and of course helped the EBP sessions run smoothly. We definitely could not do it without you! Your time, support, and willingness to contribute was incredibly appreciated.

Saturday, April 28 was FWATA Hall of Fame Day. The day started with the Hall of Fame Breakfast with twelve HOF members. NATA Executive Director David Saddler and NATA President Elect Tory Lindley also joined to welcome Michael Chisar to this prestigious group of FWATA members. FWATA Hall of Fame Day concluded with the 2018 Awards Banquet. All the HOF members in attendance joined Chisar for a group photo in front of the FWATA Hall of Fame booth. During the banquet, the 450+ attendees enjoyed a delicious dinner while the 25-year members, 50+-year members, FWATA Student Scholarships, and Research & Grants Awardees were recognized. 2018 FWATA Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament

This year the FWATA scholarship golf tournament was held a desert pines golf club in Las Vegas, Nevada. 67 golfers participated on this short but narrowed fairway course. The field was sent off and wished well by FWATA district director Carolyn Peters and NATA outgoing president Scott Sailor for a 1:00pm shot gun start. This year john Ireland, Alex Yeates and Jason Trinidad took the championship with a 16 under par and are proud owners of nike travel bags.  Kelly Wilson-Gustafson and Bryan Pacillas each won prices from DJO (muscle stimulators) for the longest drive while Jim Magnusson and Alison Aubert each won  two tickets each for the show Le Reve at the Wynn for getting closest to the hole on # 8. Finishing out the winners was Ryan Purkiss on the 50/50 holes.

Title and Cooporate Sponsorship

We would also like to thank our corporate sponsor: Townsend design

Title sponsors: Rick Kunkleman (all state insurance); Cindy Myers, financial advisor (Morgan Stanley); California Athletic Trainers Association and Ian Duncan MD (orthopedic associates)

Tournament Sponsors: Don Schengel – Othopedic Associates, Bruce Le – Othopedic Associates, Lagomarsino Group, student insurance, Henry Schein, Mueller, Mark Perry, Core Physical Therapy, B.Alicia Holland, Pima Medical Institute, Robby Mcgee, DO, Propt, and Desert Orthopedic Center and the 26 tee sponsors.

Without the support of our sponsors we could not guarantee as much fun and most importantly, raise money for scholarships for the future in athletic training. The tournament raised over $15,000.00 in scholarship money, surpassing last year’s fundraising efforts. We are looking forward to seeing everybody at Riverwalk Golf Course in San Diego California on April 25, 2019.

NATAPAC Mug and Coffee

NATAPAC ran a very unique and successful campaign, “I’m In for D8” with 41 new D8 members stepping up with one-time or recurring monthly contributions.  The campaign asked for D8 members to forego one cup of coffee per month and make a year-long commitment of $8/month recurring contribution to the NATAPAC.  District 8 members who accepted the challenge got a new travel mug and an 8-pack box of K-cups branded with the NATAPAC logo.  The campaign was in part to meet each district’s commitment to raise additional NATAPAC funds throughout the fiscal year.  Thanks to those D8 members who stepped up and declared “I’m In for D8 and NATAPAC!”

Ten scholarships were awarded to highly deserving students and young professionals.  The selection committee believes that our profession is headed in the right direction with the outstanding education and mentorship all these students are receiving in their perspective undergraduate and graduate ATPs. Here are the 10 winners:
