October 17, 2016 – In light of the CIF-Southern Section Commissioner’s letter last week urging member schools to hire a certified athletic trainer, I was given the opportunity with two colleagues to present at the CIF-SS annual AD & Principal Summit. Our topic was Current Trends in Athletic Training. We discussed the history of athletic training in our state and nation, the current status of educational changes, showed the video from Advocates for Injured Athletes featuring Tommy Mallon, covered Emergency Action Planning, and summed it up with a few new laws for administrators to be aware of.

The room was at capacity and the audience was fully engaged during the entire hour. I am very honored to have had this privilege to continue advocating for our profession in our state with the current culture. Hopefully this reinforces the need for an athletic trainer at every high school and our state to grant licensure!
