Athletic Training Student Workshop held at Kamehameha Schools Hawaii
Athletic Trainers from the Big Island of Hawaii, led by Amy Malinowski of Kea’au High School, held a 2-day athletic training student workshop at Kamehameha Schools-Hawaii, July 15-16. The purpose of the workshop was to teach local students skills that they need for the upcoming school year and give them some insight into the world of athletic training. All of the young students became CPR/AED certified, learned basic taping skills, anatomy, first aid, splinting and crutch fitting. All of new skills were put to the test at the very end of the workshop by way of an athletic training relay race. Athletic trainers from across the island taught classes to more than 20 students that participated from Kea’au High, Waiakea High, Kealakehe High, Konawaena High and Kamehameha Schools-Hawaii.
Participating ATCs included; Amy Malinowski-Kea’au High School, Titilayo Paris-Kea’au High School, Cindy Anderson-Pahoa High School, Amy Shirk-Waiakea High School, Daniel Renteria-Waiakea High School, Genevieve Girdner-Hilo High School, Kahea Schuckert-Honoka’a High School, Richard Watts-Kealakehe High School, Chelsea Qualey-Konawaena High School, Zeny Eakins-Kamehameha Schools-Hawaii and Jose Saucedo-Kamehameha School-Hawaii.
