CATA 9th Annual Hit The Hill
In late February the California Athletic Trainers’ Association (CATA) hosted its 7th Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium. Each year this event has grown in both offerings and attendance. Over 280 CATA members were in attendance this year, and each had an opportunity to take part in a Clinical Workshop on Advance Manual Therapy Techniques, and professional presentations from both young professionals like Chase Paulson, Heather Harvey, and Gina Biviano, as well as, NATA Hall of Famers like Andy Paulin and Tom Abdenour. 9 CEUs were offered with an additional available 2 EBP CEUs.

The CATA Political Action Committee hosted a social and sports memorabilia raffle after Gary Vitti, retired head athletic trainer from the LA Lakers, was welcomed and honored as the CATA keynote speaker. Vitti gave a presentation of his “32 years of titles and tears from the best seat in the house.” 78 athletic trainers and athletic training students attended the event raising over $1500 for the CATA PAC fund.
The CATA hosted its 9th annual Hit the Hill event on Monday February 27th. Over 160 athletic trainers and athletic training students descended on the State Capitol with the goal of gaining support for AB 1510. AB 1510 is known as the Athletic Training Practice Act and will provide licensure for athletic trainers in California. There were over 90 scheduled meetings with state legislators and their staff which we are proud to say led to several co-authors of the bill. The CATA now begins the 8 month campaign to get the bill through the legislature to the Governors’ desk with a coalition of support from numerous organizations such as the NCAA, AOSSM, and the CIF. The CATA sincerely thanks everyone who participated in Hit the Hill and to the large CATA Legislative Action Team who continue to lobby tirelessly for AB 1510!
