This quarter’s winner is Jarrod Spanjer, MS, ATC. Spanjer is the Athletics Director of Sports Medicine at Long Beach State University and along with the Sports Medicine Department and Administrative staff at Long Beach State, spent the last 11 months and countless hours researching and creating protocols for a safe return to play since the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

“Jarrod has always been a consistent and valued champion for the health of our student-athletes, but his efforts throughout the pandemic have truly been exemplary,” Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Ashlie Kite said. “Showing tremendous leadership not only within athletics but with the University and our Long Beach community as well, his organization, dedication and congenial efforts have allowed our student-athletes to return to competition in the safest way possible.”

Spanjer earned his Master’s Degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Biomechanics at San Diego State University, where he began his athletic training career as a graduate assistant working with the women’s crew and football teams. Jarrod is an alumnus of the Athletic Training Program at CSUN.

“Without my incredible staff, our Sports Medicine team would not function,” Spanjer said. “We all know how unique and difficult this past year has been and without the ability of my staff to adjust and adapt, I’m not sure this year could have been possible. They continue to adapt to the challenges, almost daily, to serve our student-athletes.”

Please join us in congratulating Jarrod on his recognition!
