Meet District 8 – Todd Hamburg

The FWATA Public Relations Committee Social Media team is highlighting members of District 8 each month.  This month we are highlight District 8 Secretary Todd Hamburg.

District 8 Monthly Member Highlight: Todd Hamburg, MS, LA, ATC
Current Position: Head Athletic Trainer, Bonanza High School
Current FWATA Title: Treasurer
What first made you choose athletic training? What inspired you to become an athletic trainer?

When I was in high school I got injured playing football and I had no athletic trainer present. I then had knee surgery and no rehab after the injury. I returned to paly not at 100%. I then played the following year, got re-injured, and this time an athletic trainer was present. He helped me through rehab and I was better after the experience. Up until then I considered a career in Physical Therapy but after that experience I wanted to become an AT.

How did you first get involved in FWATA?

I wanted to get involved in my state organization. I realized that if you don’t get involved in your career field then you have to accept what is being decided for you. I wanted to at least see what direction my career was going.

What advice would you give to AT students?

Get Involved! You will be doing this for 30 years and if you want to have a say in what happens to you, get involved.

What are you most proud of when you look back on your career? Or what is your most memorable moment in the profession?

I look back at the students that I helped and students I mentored and those students make me proud.

What are you looking forward to most as our profession continues to grow and develop?

Respect. As our profession grows, the respect for what we do grows.
Is there anything you would like the members of district 8 to know about your committee or things happening in our district?
