Jillian Hubble, ATC, CMT and Teralyn Dodds, ATC presented on Massage Techniques and Cupping at San Joaquin Delta College for the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Big 8 Conference Spring Meeting, in May.

Attendees learned that massage for the AT the goal is to reduce the adaptive load (biochemical, biomechanical, psychosocial) that the body is coping with, and/or to enhance the self-regulatory mechanism of the body, so that they can better handle current adaptive demands.

Several considerations were discussed such as the environment, type of tissue, level of injury, time restraints and the goal of the session.  Attendees were able to work hands on in a lab and were able to learn (or relearn) massage techniques and work with both suction cupping and fire cupping.  Attendees walked away with more tools to utilize with their athletes.
