Chaz Kekipi, athletic trainer at Servite High School, stunned his now fiancé and fellow AT, Karen Zieger, with the surprise of a lifetime after their schools’ rival football game. Zieger, of Orange Lutheran High School, was previously informed that the respective teams would honor the athletic training staff with an appreciation ceremony. Kekipi set up the fake event to hide the proposal he had been planning all along. “She had the whole athletic trainer look going on – glasses, polo shirt, khakis,” said Kekipi. At the end of the game, both athletic trainers were introduced and directed to the center of the field. Zieger was given a bouquet of flowers and a game ball with the words “Marry Me?” on it. I was “freaking out like a little girl,” Zieger said. “I nodded yes because I couldn’t talk.”  The couple plans to be married June 3, 2016, “in the dead weeks between the end of the school year and the start of summer football,” according to Zieger.
