The FWATA Secondary Schools Athletic Trainers Committee (SSATC) is dedicated to recognizing the concerns and responsibilities associated with the secondary school setting and to developing programs and activities to enhance the effectiveness of secondary schools athletic trainers.

National (NATA) Programs

  • Atlas Project

    The Athletic Training Locations and Services (ATLAS) Project is a joint initiative of the Korey Stringer Institute and the National Athletic Trainers’ Association designed to track access to AT services, improve communication between athletic trainers and produce research for the advancement of the profession of Athletic Training in the secondary school setting. The project has created a real-time database with visualizations that map the level and type of AT services in secondary schools. Help us out by setting a reminder to update every August 1st.

    This program was created to introduce high school students to athletic training and foster engagement with professionals as students begin their career discovery. Participating students will gain knowledge about athletic training and connection to athletic trainers and other sports medicine professionals.

  • Secondary School Mental Health Preparedness Microcredential

    This self-paced microcredential is designed to equip secondary school athletic trainers with essential knowledge and practical strategies to recognize, respond to and plan for mental health challenges among student-athletes. Through a combination of videos, research articles, discussions, and assessments, participants will gain a deeper understanding of athlete mental health and develop actionable skills to support holistic care. 10 CEUs, 6 courses.

  • FWATA - Safe Sport School Grant

    FWATA SSATC Safe Sport School Award Grant

    The Safe Sports School award recognizes secondary schools that take the crucial steps to keep their athletes free from injuries. Schools must fulfill specific athlete safety criteria to qualify for this elite distinction, including the creation of a comprehensive athletic health care system and the coordination of pre-participation physical examinations.

  • NATA - Athletic Trainer of the Year Award

    NATA SSATC Athletic Trainer of the Year Award

    The NATA Secondary School Athletic Trainers' Committee has established the Secondary School Athletic Trainer of the Year Award to recognize deserving athletic trainers in secondary schools across the country. Specifically this award recognizes eleven district winners and one overall national winner. Applications accepted from November 1st through December 31st.

    The Servant’s Heart Award recognizes deserving secondary school ATs in each district for their service to the athletic training profession, their schools and their communities. Applications accepted from November 1st through December 31st.

    NATA SSATC Advocate Award

    The AT Advocate Award recognizes an individual, organization, corporation or company that has been a champion in securing athletic trainers in the secondary school setting and improving public awareness of the profession.
